honoring our community cats
You may already know that our property is home to a long history of wire manufacturing and production. What you may not know is that New York Wire Works is also home to its very own cat colony! When Mark Lane Properties first purchased the building back in 2019, we not only inherited an expansive property filled with old wire looms, but we also discovered we were now parents to a number of stray cats living here!
After discovering this colony of cats, Mark Sherman, president of Mark Lane Properties and also a huge animal lover, felt responsible for their protection. His goal was to find a way to honor our community cats by creating a safe environment for them to call home.
Over the past two years, we have worked with local rescue organizations on establishing a TNR (trap-neuter-return) program to prevent further breeding and help keep the current colony contained. We have also provided medical care and vaccinations for the cats that were able to be brought in.
We embrace our community of cats here at New York Wire Works, and are dedicated to helping them live their best lives. We are working with the York County SCPA on bigger and better projects to help enrich and protect them. Should you be interested in volunteering with feeding or with any of our community cat projects, please reach out to us at wireworks@marklaneproperties.com. We are always welcoming the extra hands of the local community and the expertise of animal rescues and organizations!
This custom-made shelter was created under close watch from our Kitty Construction Crew, and from the looks of it, seems to be approved! 🐾

We are inspired by the vision of the Ernest Hemingway Home, which is home to about 60 cats in Key West, Florida. Our dream is to create what they created, and provide a safe, beautiful, and healthy environment for our cats to thrive. Please visit https://www.hemingwayhome.com/our-cats to learn more about what drives our inspiration.
We are happy to be able to honor these cats and give them the best chance at a long, safe, and happy life. We believe that it is our responsibility to not just help transform the community around us, but the community within as well. Saving one animal may not change the whole world, but for that one animal, their whole world has changed. We believe that humanity and love will always reign supreme, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do our part in changing the world, one cat at a time.
